Me & My Photographic Style

I started in photography when I was young...three or four years old.  My mother had this old 110mm point and shoot camera - the kind that looked like a travel toothbrush case - and she gave it to me.  I spent rolls  upon rolls of film taking photos of anything I found interesting; walls, grass, feet, cows, sky - you name it, I shot it.  My mother didn't find the same things to be so interesting (imagine that).  After years of nearly bankrupting my mother with developing costs (maybe not quite that bad), my mother gave me some lessons and a Pentax SLR.

Everything else has been learned the old-fashined way; self-taught with a good dose of books, tutorials, photography forums, and lots and lots of practice.  One of the mantras I hammer into my students' heads at school is to never stop learning.  This profession certainly provides ample oppurtunity to keep learning.

So what makes me different from the other photographers out there?

Simply put; forgetting everything I just mentioned.  What good does skill with a camera or post-processing ability and fluency with Photoshop CS4 do if the photo doesn't reach out and grab you?  My simple goal is to have you say "wow" when you see yourself in print.  I want you to feel something when you look at my work, not just say "that's nice."

Together, we'll create the feel you're after.  And while clothes and setting are important in creating that feel, it's really about the emotion behind the image.  I strive to capture the real you.  After all, you're you!

I trully enjoy shooting portraiture but have a secret affinity for worn down items.  Anything grungy is super fun to photograph.  I also love taking pictures of automobiles, and while it's not my strong point, it's something I'm improving in!

Take a look at some of my galleries and you'll see that my interests are wide-spread.

I'm an easy-going guy and pretty much go with the flow.  If you see my work and you like my style, I certainly hope you give me a call or send me a message; I can't wait to capture some special moments with you.

In a Nutshell

Deep down, I'm truly a night person. I can function fine in the mornings, but if I could choose...

I love to stay up late.

I love working with children. I'm an elementary school teacher, too!

The only food I've ever eaten and not liked is raw/steamed oysters. Blame it on traumatic childhood experiences.

I LOVE Halloween and Thanksgiving.

My favorite soft drink is Diet Mountain Dew. If this isn't around, I'll take a Diet Coke.

I hate dancing. This is another one chalked up to my childhood.

My favorite season is easily winter, but a winter someplace where one gets a huge amount of snow. Fall comes next.

I believe that many of the world's problems would vanish if we could show one another compassion.

I play the guitar.

I play the piano.

I play the trombone.

I like to sing.

I'm not quite 30, but closer to it than 20.

My wife and I have a three legged rescue cat named Chance. He's adorable....maybe a little conceited.
